Will
Jesus Christ save those Christians
who do not
believe him but tell him what to do?
Christians
do not believe what Jesus preached. Why do they believe Jesus Christ saves them
from hell?
One Christian
cliché is
"believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will
be saved."
Every Christian believes on Jesus Christ, otherwise there
will be no Christianity. A lot of non Christians believe that Jesus Christ
lived two thousand years ago, done miracles; died on a cross, etc. Are non
Christians, who believed on Jesus Christ, saved? Christians may say, no. Then,
what the difference
is between these two kinds of beliefs? Do Christians have similar belief
as non Christians and yet are saved just because they are Christians? Let us
study the difference between these beliefs from the Bible.
In the beginning Jesus Christ was
God the Word, then he became the Man Jesus, then he was made the Lord Jesus
Christ, and he is God. Even though Christians believe these, still they do not
believe what Jesus Christ says. That is, Christians believe things about Jesus
Christ, but they do not believe his preachings. That is, Christians do not
believe Jesus Christ.
For example: Jesus Christ said,
“John 8:34
Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is
the servant of sin. Matt 7:24
Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of
heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.”
But Christians do not believe what Jesus Christ has
said. Christians commit sins like others; they do not do the will of God the
Father, and keep calling Jesus Christ as Lord, which are opposite to what Jesus
has said. However, Christians believe preachers, who say that Jesus Christ will
take them to heaven. In short, Christians believe the preachers, but not the Lord Jesus Christ.
1.
What is to believe?
But if a person came
to you and just asked you, whether you believe him or not, what kind of answer
can you give? Believing always refers to the information that is conveyed and whether we
accept the information as true or not. Believing a person is to believe what he
has said and not to believe whether he is short or tall or something else about
him.
Let us make the following as an example. Someone says,
"I believe that Jesus Christ has saved me". If we ask him how, he may
refer to a verse in the Bible, or a sermon of a preacher, or a conversation with
a friend, or his own conviction, etc. This is not his belief on the Lord
Jesus Christ, but he believed on the verse, the
sermon, the conversation or his conviction, about Jesus Christ.
However, believe the Lord Jesus Christ is to believe what he has said, but not believing
the things said about him. The Bible
has information about Jesus Christ and it has the teachings of the commandments
of Jesus Christ, which is the gospel. If we believe what he has says in his
teachings, then we believe Jesus Christ. We must believe the Bible, which is the
word of God. We must also believe what Jesus Christ says through the
Bible. This is the true belief.
Bible goes one more step in the belief.
" Luke 6:46
And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things
which I say?" To
hear and believe what he says is good. But since he is Lord, he demands
obedience as a commander demands obedience from a soldier. So, if we
believe that he is our Lord, we must obey what he says. If we don't obey him and
we say that he is our Lord, then we lie because our obedience is the one making
him as our Lord. Then, believing on
the Lord Jesus Christ is to believe his
teachings and obeying his commandments. According to Jesus obeying is part
of believing.
2. Commandments of
Jesus
They are the
same as the Commandments of God the Father. God the Father who was dwelling in
the Man Jesus was speaking through him. " John
14:10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the
words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth
in me, ---.
24
--- the word which ye
hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me."
Even though
the commandments of God were given in the Old Testament settings, they are
spiritual.
"Romans 7:14
For we know that the law is spiritual:" The New Testament was given in the perspective of the kingdom of
heaven. It is neither pertained to the kingdom of Israel, nor pertained to the
things of this world. God reveals the mysteries of his kingdom to his disciples, but to
others it was not given to understand in that fashion.
"Matt 13:11
He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the
mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given."
The
principle of the spiritual application of the commandments was also taught to the disciples.
" Matt 5:21 Ye have heard that it was said by them
of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of
the judgment:
22 But I say unto you, That
whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the
judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of
the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell
fire.
27
Ye
have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:
28
But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath
committed adultery with her already in his heart."
Those who don't have the spirit, cannot even do the commandments of the Old
Testament. If it is so, how can
they do the spiritual commandments of the New Testament without the spirit? So
as usual, the false workers of Christianity twist the Word to justify
themselves and to make it easy for their followers. " 2
Peter 3:16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things;
in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned
and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own
destruction."
The
obedience of the spiritual
commandments comes naturally to those who are truly spiritual. It is not grievous for those who love him.
" 1 John 5:3 For this is the love of God,
that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
John 14:15
If ye love me, keep my commandments.
21
He that hath my commandments,
and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved
of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. 24
He
that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings:---."
God
says it clearly that those who does not love God, will not keep his
commandments.
3. Become
Spiritual
By our own effort we cannot become spiritual.
God has to give us the spirit of life, or we may say that God has to quicken
us. In other words God has to give us the spirit man and the power of the Holy Spirit
to enable us to live a spiritual life.
If we have a sincere
desire to be spiritual, in order to obey God, then ask for it and it will be given to you.
"Eph 2:1 And you hath he quickened, who
were dead in trespasses and sins;
Luke 11:9 And I
say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock,
and it shall be opened unto you.
13
--- how much
more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask
him?
John 3:6 That which is born
of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7 Marvel not that I said unto
thee, Ye must be born again."
Those Christians who believe on him should receive the
Holy Spirit. If they obey God, he will give them the Holy Spirit. "John
7:39 But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should
receive ---.
Acts 5:32 --- and so is
also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him."
4. What
God expects?
Every Christian worship God and are
satisfied in the manner of their worship. Jesus Christ says that the true
worshipper must worship God in spirit and in truth. If they truly believe the
Lord Jesus Christ, they will obey him. " John
4:23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true
worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father
seeketh such to worship him. 24
God is
a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in
truth."
Believe
what Jesus Christ says rather than to believe what preachers say about
him.
The truth will be
understood by those who believe him, if we study the His word continually and
obey what we have studied. "John
8:31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my
word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
32
And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you
free."
To
receive the spirit person and the Holy Spirit is not an option for a true
Christian. But it is mandatory for Christian life because nobody can live
a holy life without them. But when they receive the Holy Spirit they will receive power to
live a holy life so that they will be a true witness unto Christ.
" Acts 1:8
But ye shall receive power, after that
the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me ---."
God wants us to believe
that he will reward those who diligently seek him. " Heb 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he
that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of
them that diligently seek him." So God wants us to
diligently seek him, to receive the Holy Spirit, and to live a holy life. And we
will receive a great reward.
5. Signs
and Miracles
'God the Word' became a mere man voluntarily in order to die
for the sins of the world. This action of God was prophesied long before it
happened. "John
5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye
think ye have eternal life: and they are they
which testify of me."
However, when God became a Man, it was supported by signs and wonders in
order to show that it was him.
"John
10:25 Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye
believed not: the works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness
of me. 37 If I do not
the works of my Father, believe me not.
38 But if I do, though ye believe not
me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is
in me, and I in him."
When the Lord Jesus sends his disciples
to do the ministry, they were given signs and miracles in order to confirm that they were
the servants of God. "Matt
10:1 And when he had called unto him his
twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast
them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.
John
14:12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that
believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works
than these shall he do; ---.
Romans 15:19
Through mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God; so that
from Jerusalem, and round about unto Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel
of Christ."
6. Miracles
By God
Healings and wonderful miracles were
done by the Lord Jesus and by his disciples. They are recorded in the Bible. In
reality they were all done by the power of 'God the Father' and 'God the Holy
spirit'. The Lord Jesus said that he could not do anything without the Father.
In reality, the Father was doing the miracles through the Son. "John 5:19
Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son
can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things
soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.
30
I can of mine own self do nothing: ---
Acts 10:38
How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went
about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was
with him."
After the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
he is seated in the right hand of power, as God. So from then, all the Spiritual
and power manifestations are done by God the Father, God the Son and God the
Holy Spirit. " Acts 4:8 Then Peter, filled with
the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel,
9
If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what
means he is made whole; 10
Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of
Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom
God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you
whole." God uses his servants to do what he
wants to do.
7.
Different Beliefs: Belief for Healing: Belief
for Salvation
Many healings done by Jesus Christ
are recorded in the Bible. Jesus asked many of them whether they believed that he was
able to heal them. They believed and he healed them. One example is given here.
"Matt
9:27 And when Jesus departed thence, two blind men followed him, crying, and
saying, Thou Son of David, have mercy on us. 28
And when he was come into
the house, the blind men came to him: and Jesus saith unto them, Believe ye
that I am able to do this? They said unto him, Yea, Lord.
29
Then touched he
their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you. 30
And their
eyes were opened; and Jesus straitly charged them, saying, See that no
man know it." Even though the power
of healing was given for a sign, it was not for propaganda or advertisement.
Let
us say, a man believed on Jesus Christ for his healing and he has received his healing. Does this mean that he is
saved, because he believed on Jesus Christ to heal him? No! This person is healed and not
saved. For
his salvation, he has to believe on 'the Lord Jesus Christ', which means that he
has to accept Jesus Christ as his Lord, who is the author of salvation and who is seated on the throne in
heaven as God. This belief is
to submit themselves to obey whatever the Lord says.
8.
Conclusion
Salvation
is eternal and it is spiritual. We must believe on the Lord Jesus Christ for our
salvation. The knowledge and acceptance of the historical works of Jesus
of Nazareth will not save anybody. The salvation of the soul cannot, and will not happen in an oath of promise, in a
ceremony of acceptance, in
leading a person through a prayer, or any such things. If we believe
Jesus Christ, we
will begin to obey him at least in the ceremonial things like water baptism,
communion, etc. Then God will give us the spirit of life. Thus we will become Spiritual,
which will help us to obey His commandments. Then God will help us to
receive the Holy Spirit, who will lead us to walk in His ways. Righteous living
(works) will lead us to holiness and to the abiding of God. Those who have the abiding of God
will not commit sin and they have overcome the flesh, the world and the devil. Now we are saved and we are the
church in heaven,
the body of Christ, the sons of
God, the bride of Christ, and we will be with Christ for ever and ever.
