How hard is to obey the commandments of God?

The Bible says that the commandments of God are not hard if we love God. “1 John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous But, most Christian preachers unanimously proclaim that it is impossible to obey God. However, let us look at the commandments and analyze it one by one.

1. Ten Commandments

(1). “Deut 5:7 Thou shalt have none other gods before me.” Is it too hard not to have any other God other than our creator? No.

(2). “Deut 5:8 Thou shalt not make thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing ... 9 Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them.” Is it too hard? No.

(3). “Deut 5:11 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain.” Few zealous Christians take the name of the Lord in vain to show off their zealousness for God. They must stop this ignorance and give more reverence to God. However, it is not hard to do.

(4). “Deut 5:12 Keep the sabbath day to sanctify it.” The main Sabbath day is Saturday. It is a day to take physical rest and it has nothing to do with worship. God has repealed this commandment from the New Testament believers. It was given to Jews.

(5). “Deut 5:16 Honour thy father and thy mother.” The disciples are exempted from this commandment. However, it is given to Christians as a general commandment. This is not an impossible commandment.

(6). “Deut 5:17 Thou shalt not kill.” Is it impossible not to kill? No.

(7). “Deut 5:18 Neither shalt thou commit adultery.” God has blessed the marriage bed. Husband and wife are for each other. For singles: if you burn, marry and enjoy life. Why should a man desire the wife of someone else? If it is impossible, try this. Fear and love God. Thank God for you a wife. Don’t say it is impossible not to commit adultary if you are not of Satan.

(8). “Deut 5:19 Neither shalt thou steal.” It is not impossible.

(9). “Deut 5:20 Neither shalt thou bear false witness against thy neighbour.” It is easy.

(10). “Deut 5:21 Neither shalt thou covet thy neighbour's.” The commandment does not say not to covet at all. It says not to desire which belongs to your neighbor. Is it hard?

God gave the above Ten Commandments to the Jews. Jesus Christ said if they keep these commandments they will have eternal life. “Matt 19:16 ... what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? 17… if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments

2. Commandments of Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ tells Christians: “Matt 5:20... I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.” Christians have to obey the commandments from the roots. That is, they have to nib sin in the bud. Example: They should not look at a woman with lust so that there will be no chance for adultery. So also they should not hate a person, so that there is no chance to kill, etc. “Matt 5:27 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: 28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.” Then, Jesus Christ tells them to kill the deed of the body of sin: “Matt 5:29 And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. 30 And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.” Even though Did not mean to mutilate the body, he use such a language in order to emphasis his doctrine.

The commandments of the Lord appear to be very rude. But it is practical and Christians are given grace, power, and the Holy Spirit of God so that they are lead of the Spirit in the ways of God by destroying the ungodly function of the flesh to become the sons of God. “John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God. 16… of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace. Luke 11:13 ... how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him? Rom 8:13 ... but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. 14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. 17 ... if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ;” Christians can obey the commandments of God by his power, grace, and the Holy Spirit if only they want to destroy the power of sinful deeds of their flesh. Then they become the sons of God and they will inherit the kingdom of God. If we desire to enjoy the sins of the flesh we can not obey God. But, we all will obey God if we believe what the Lord Jesus Christ has preached. But, most of us take it lightly because our preachers are more convincing than the Lord. Satan convinced Eve better than God and Eve was more convincing to Adam. It happens even now.

3. It is possible for us to obey

In short, the commandments of God are not hard to obey, especially with the provision of grace, power, and Holy Spirit of God. But, most of us will not obey God because we like to enjoy sins for its pleasure. Further preachers want to please the congregation for salary. They pretend to serve God but they serve themselves. They tell us in a sneaky way that we do not have to obey Jesus Christ. They tell us to believe that Jesus died for our sins and declare that we are saved. We believe preachers more than we believe the preaching of Jesus Christ. “2 Cor 11:14 ... no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. 15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.”

4. We must obey God

We must obey God. “2 Thes 1:8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: 9 Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction ... Gal 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. 1 Cor 6:9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, 10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.”

Believe on Jesus Christ is not to believe that he is six feet tall, white in color, was killed on the cross, etc, but to believe what Jesus Christ has preached and is recorded in the Bible for us to do so that we may inherit eternal life. They who really believe him will obey him, that is, obey his commandments. They will inherit eternal life.

If we love God with reverential fear, we will obey God - We will stop sinning.
