God became just a flesh man in order to be crucified. After crucifixion, he was resurrected.
Then
he was lifted up to heaven and was declared as Lord and Almighty God.
God the Word became Flesh and died. God the Most
High raised him from his death and made him Lord and God.
God the Word was equal in status as God with Most High God. Then God the Word
became a man emptying himself from being God. Being a man he submitted to Most
High God. In obedience to Most High God, this man gave up his life as a
sacrifice on the cross. Because of his obedience, God raised him from death,
lifted him high, made him Christ, Lord, and God. He was made God.
1.
God the Word became Flesh, the man, Jesus of Nazareth
God the Word existed from the beginning. He was
Spirit.
"John 4:24
God is a Spirit:--."
God was made flesh and became the man, Jesus of
Nazareth.
"John 1:1
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was
God. 14
And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us."
God became a
man in order to be sacrificed as the Lamb of God for the forgiveness of the
sins of his people.
"1Pet 1:18
Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as
silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your
fathers; 19
But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and
without spot:---"
By his supreme sacrifice he became the author of
our salvation and he pardons those who obey Him.
"Heb 5:9 And
being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all
them that obey him;." But he rejects those who call him Lord and not
obey him. "Matt 7:21
Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the
kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven."
2. God
declared Jesus as the Begotten Son and God of All
When
Jesus of Nazareth was crucified, dead and buried God has raised Jesus from the
death and declared him as 'the Begotten Son of God'.
The
second Psalm prophesied this action of God and the book of Acts explained the
fulfillment in the thirteenth chapter of the book of Acts.
"Acts 13:32 And we declare
unto you glad tidings, how that the promise which was made unto the fathers,
33
God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in
that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second
psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee.
Ps
2:7 I will declare
the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I
begotten thee."
When God the Most High declared Jesus as the begotten Son, he also calls him God.
God the Holy Spirit also repeats and calls him God. Thus, the Lord Jesus Christ has
become God.
"Heb 1:8 But unto the Son he saith,
Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of
righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. 9 Thou hast loved
righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God,
hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows."
3. God the Most
High raised Jesus as Lord and Christ
'God
the Word' became a man. The man further humbled himself, became obedient
unto the death of the cross. So God the Father (Most High God) raised
him up from the dead and exalted him to the Utmost Position so that every knee should
bow to Him and everyone shall call Him
the Lord. "Phil 2:8
And being found in fashion as a man, he
humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. 9
Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above
every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things
in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the
glory of God the Father."
Thus, the Man Jesus became the Lord Jesus Christ.
"Acts
2:36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know
assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord
and Christ."
4.
Lord Jesus Christ, God of All, was and is God Almighty
In general, we refer the
Triune God individually and collectively as God Almighty, but in most cases, it
is the Lord Jesus Christ, who is the doer, as the Almighty.
When the Lord Jesus Christ visits Apostle John at the island of Patmos, he
identifies himself as 'the Almighty'. "Rev
1:8 I am Alpha and
Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was,
and which is to come, the Almighty."
In the reference of the gospel of John, we see that the Son judges all and in the reference of revelation the 'Lord
God Almighty' will judge. Therefore, the Lord Jesus Christ is 'God Almighty.'
"John 5:22 For the Father
judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:
Rev 16:17 ---Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments."
The Scriptures are very clear about
the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, his government (ruling) and his
righteous judgment. In the light of the Scriptures, we can see that the
following verses point to the Lord Jesus Christ and call him Lord God
Almighty.
"Rev
4:8 And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they
were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy,
holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come."
"Rev 11:15
And the seventh angel
sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this
world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he
shall reign for ever and ever. 16
And the four and twenty elders, which sat
before God on their seats, fell upon their faces, and worshipped God,
17 Saying,
We give thee thanks, O Lord God Almighty, which art, and wast, and art
to come; because thou hast taken to thee thy great power, and hast
reigned."
"Rev 16:7 And I heard another out of
the altar say, Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are
thy judgments. 14 For they are the
spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the
earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day
of God Almighty."
We know that God the Word became
flesh, Jesus of Nazareth, and he shed his blood for the sins of the world.
Scripture points this out and calls the Lord Jesus Christ as God Almighty, King
of Kings and Lord of Lords. "Rev 19:13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is
called The Word of God. 14 And the armies which were in heaven
followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.
15 And
out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations:
and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the
fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. 16 And he hath on his
vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF
LORDS."
From the
previous scriptures, we see that Lord Jesus Christ is God Almighty and he could
have revealed himself as God Almighty at some point. From the following
verse we see that the Lord Jesus Christ, who was God the Word, revealed himself
as God Almighty to Abraham. "Gen
17:1 --- the
LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God ---".
5.
God the
Almighty was "God the I Am" and Lord Jehovah
God has
appeared to Moses and identify himself with the names of 'I Am that I Am'
or 'I Am' and 'Jehovah'. God was God Almighty to Abraham, Isaac
and Jacob. When he revealed himself to Moses, he was "God the I Am" and for
the people of Israel he was Lord Jehovah. "Ex 3:14 And God said
unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children
of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.
Ex 6:2 -- God spake unto
Moses, and said ---, I am the LORD:
3 --I
appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God
Almighty,
but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them." Now
we see that 'God the Word' was from the very beginning with "God the Most
High" and with "God the Holy
Ghost." To Abraham he was 'God
Almighty', to Moses he was 'I Am That I Am' or 'God the I Am'
and to the people of Israel he was 'Lord Jehovah'. Then because of
repeated disobedience of his chosen people Israel, the kingdom of Israel has ended. It was time for God to introduce the 'Kingdom of God', which is
Spiritual kingdom to his chosen spiritual people. God sent a man, John the
Baptist, to prepare the way for the 'Kingdom of God'. Then 'God the Word'
became flesh, a mere man, to show that a man can live a holy life and inherit
the 'Kingdom of God'. This Man was Jesus of Nazareth.
"Matt 13:11 He answered and said unto
them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of
heaven, but to them it is not given. Col 1:26 Even
the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made
manifest to his saints:" Lord Jesus Christ reveals his
mysteries to his followers only and not to others. Even though God kept
the kingdom principles as secrets in the Old Testament times, God and his eternal
justice, never changes and they are always the same.
"Eph 3:4 --- the
mystery of Christ 5 Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men,
as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;
Heb 13:8 Jesus Christ the
same yesterday, and to day, and for ever."
Even though God revealed the mysteries in the New Testament times, since it is
revealed to a few, they are still kept as mysteries for most of the people.
God, three in one, is still a mystery to most of the
Christians.
The Bible describes God as three Persons knitted in
one Spirit as one Person. Among the three persons the role of God the Word
is very special for us. He was God, who created all things including
spiritual powers. Then he was made (became) flesh (a mere man).
"John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, ---"
As a man, just with the provisions that was
available for man, he has lived a life that has no sin.
"1 John 3:5 And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no
sin."
Jesus of Nazareth lived a sanctified life so that
his disciples may also live a sanctified life and we all have a calling to
follow the steps of his sinless life.
"John
17:19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be
sanctified through the truth. 1 Peter 2:21 For even hereunto were
ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example,
that ye should follow his steps: 22
Who did no sin, neither was
guile found in his mouth:"
Jesus Christ will appear to receive those who will keep themselves pure, as he
is pure. When the Lord meets them, they will appear in the likeness of
Jesus Christ.
"John 3:2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall
be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall
see him as he is. 3
And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure."
These pure people not only be changed in the appearance, but also they become
heirs with the Lord Jesus Christ. They will sit in his heavenly throne and
rule with the Lord.
"Romans
8:17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God,
and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be
also glorified together. 18
For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be
compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
Rev 3:21 To him
that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also
overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne."
The great mystery is that God became a
man so that a man may sit with God in his throne.
"2
Cor 8:9 For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus
Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye
through his poverty might be rich."
7.
The
Lord God Jesus Christ is the Almighty Lord Jehovah
God the Word became
Flesh, the man, Jesus of Nazareth and again he has become God the Word.
"1 John 5:7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one."
In between,
he held many names and some of the names he still holds dearly. He is
known as 'Almighty' both in Old and New Testaments. The name 'Jehovah' is
from Old Testament and the name Jesus was when he became a man. He kept
the name Jesus even after he has become God. However, he has added
'Christ', which is 'Son of God' and 'Lord', which is 'Lord of all' along the
name Jesus, to make it the Lord Jesus Christ, who is God. That is to say
that even though Jesus of Nazareth was a mere man, the Lord Jesus Christ is God.
He was Lord Jehovah. He was, is and will be God Almighty forever.
God
is Omnipotent, Omnipresent and Omniscient. He is the Creator of the
Universe. He is one of the three Persons in God the Spirit. He is our
God the Lord Jesus Christ.
